New Tijuana Flats Restaurant Opened in Fort Myers

In 1995, a college kid, Brian Wheeler decided to open a Tex-Mex restaurant. He had no restaurant experience at all. People thought that because of his lack of experience, his restaurant idea was doomed to fail. They were wrong.  The college kid’s weird and wild vision attracted so many people that the business has been expanding and serving delicious Mexican delights ever since.

Fortunately for waterfront real estate locals in Fort Myers, the Tijuana Flats opened its first location in Fort Myers at 12635 S. Cleveland Avenue on December 17. According to Amy Sowder of, the restaurant will have a special each day of its grand opening week. Following are the event scheduled on the restaurant’s opening week: $2 Coronas opening day; two tacos, chips and a drink for $4.99 Dec. 18; Give Back Day Dec. 19, with 20 percent of the day’s sales donated to Harry Chapin Food Bank; Throwback Thursdaze with a Tijuana-size burrito, chips and a drink for $5.99 Dec. 20; live music with giveaways from 6-9 p.m. Dec. 21; Local Hero Day Dec. 22, with 50-percent off an entrée for EMTs, police, military, teachers and firefighters with proper I.D.; and kids eat free with the purchase of an adult entrée Dec. 23.

Furthermore, the new restaurant location in Fort Myers property will feature Tijuana Flats? fresh, made-to-order menu and a 15-pump hot sauce bar. According to reports, the 2,050-square-foot restaurant can cater to 102 guests: 70 indoor and 32 on the patio. The brightly colored mural on the wall portrays a spectacular, blue-haired vixen traveling through the restaurant in her Ford “Model T” hot rod.

According to Sowder’s report, the new Tijuana Flat’s restaurant will have energy-efficient equipment like light emitting diode lamps, solar powered kitchen timers, low-flow toilets, dining room tiles made from 40-percent pre-consumer recycled materials and a tank less water heater.
