The once thriving resort of Hidden Harbor Inn in San Carlos Island is being demolished to make way for new homes. The property was bought by a company based in Champaign, IL. The site of the former resort will be developed into a community of single family homes.
The Hidden Harbor Inn was one of the resorts in San Carlos Bay that boomed in this part of Florida. Yet when hurricane Charlie hit the state, the property fell into disrepair. In 2008, the property was purchased by RSW Waterfront LLC in the amount of $4.75 million. The company continued to lease out cottages that were still in good condition to tenants.
The company that is in charge of the redevelopment of the property cannot provide any new comments as the project is currently in its first stages. However other realtors in the area are optimistic with the redevelopment of the property. It is hoped that once the project is completed, this will bring a big improvement to this seaside community.
San Carlos Bay is at the southwest area of Fort Myers
near the Caloosahatchee River. It connects the Pine Island Sound from the west and the Matlacha Pass to the North. Because of its proximity, tourists have enjoyed staying at this quiet beachside neighborhood.
The Hidden Harbor Inn has become an inherent spot in the island. The first buildings in the property were built back in the 1950’s as reported by the Lee County Property Appraiser’s Office.
There were plans in the past to develop the land with condominiums complexes but with the current trends in the market, construction of single family homes is the better option. Prospective homeowners would not have to go through the hassle of vehicular and people traffic along Fort Myers Beach.
The property is one of the biggest parcels of land in San Carlos Island and the site provides a rare opportunity to develop housing constructions in the area. This was also acknowledged by the president of the Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Bud Nocera. New developments are encouraging to see along the beach area.
The most recent developments in the beach area were a number of single family homes but there were no other developments after this project was completed. The new developments springing into this area are good indicators of the real estate industry’s recovery as there is a growing demand for new homes.
